Studio Rules

Annual School Performance
The Sonia Herron Academy of Jazz has an annual school performance at the end of the year. Participation is optional, however, students are strongly recommended to take part in the performance to enable them to develop their artistic and presentation skills. If the student wishes to participate they must commit to all the required rehearsals and dress rehearsals. A costume levy is payable in Term 4 in addition to class fees.

Class Attendance
Regular class attendance is vital for students to develop and keep abreast of their syllabus work. Students must be punctual to classes to ensure they receive a complete warm-up.

Make Up Sessions
At most, children may receive one free make up class per term (3 months) and this will be made up in the following term. A doctor's certificate must be presented to the studio receptionist at the next class and one hour notice given to the teacher before the missed class to entitle you to a free make up session.

Uniform and Grooming
All students (except adults) must purchase the school uniform by the end of their first month at the Academy. The uniform is an exclusive design for Sonia Herron Academy of Jazz students only and can be purchased at the reception desk. Students must wear the uniform to all lessons and in their examination.

Jazz Uniform
All students must purchase the correct jazz shoes by the end of their first month at the Academy. All students have a regulation exam uniform of jazz top, jazz pants, white ankle socks, and black jazz shoes.

The boy’s singlet and shorts uniform is available at the reception desk.

Long hair must be pulled back neatly for all lessons, preferably in a pony-tail, french plait, or bun. For safety reasons, no watches or jewellery (with the exception of stud earrings), are to be worn during class.

Adult students can wear their own choice of clothing to class that is suitable for dancing (e.g., bike pants and t-shirts, leotards, tights, etc.). Examination attire will be determined nearer the time by the adult class and teacher. Jazz shoes will be required for classes and examinations.

Hip Hop Uniform
Uniform singlet top, or t-shirt and hip hop pants. Street sports shoes are to be worn; however, please use shoes with non-marking soles.

Studio Care
Smoking and eating in the building is not permitted.

Child Safety
For safety reasons, during teaching time students are to be collected from the waiting room inside the dance studio. It is the responsibility of the parents to ensure their child does not wait outside the Academy premises. Please be prompt to collect your child after class has finished.

Fees
Fees are strictly payable in advance. Fees can be posted or given to the Academy receptionist. Late fees attract a 10% penalty fee. Checks must be made out to: Rhythm Dance Studio

Timetable
The timetable may be subject to change; however, efforts will be made to ensure that all existing classes remain in their current timeslot.

Class Observation
Observers may view classes quietly through the studio door windows.

Queries
Queries can be directed to the teacher personally or one of the Academy directors by calling the Academy during office hours. Please do not approach teachers during the class changeover time.

Conduct
The Academy has a policy to be loving and kind to all children and we seek to see your child develop in a healthy environment. If you have any concerns please direct them to the teacher concerned.

Policies
Failure to comply with any of the above policies of the Academy may result in the student being requested to withdraw from the Academy. The Academy reserves the right to decline applications to the school without giving reason.
